Beginning Archery

Archery is a sport that anyone can take part in, no great physical strength is required, just correct technique, if you can pull a bow then you can shoot. Men, women, children and disabled archers can - and do - compete on equal terms.

Kestrels can provide have a go at archery facilities, or archery demonstrations. If you host a local event, such as a village fête or summer fair and would like an archery stall present or just an archery demonstration, then we may be available to run it for you subject to our availability and the suitability of your venue. Beginners Courses

Most years Kestrels run two training courses for beginners, always with enough qualified coaches to go round. The cost for the course is £40 per archer, all of the equipment you will need is provided. Each course consists of five sessions held weekly, each lasting about two hours.

The summer course is run outdoors from June to July, and the winter course indoors from January to February. To get a place on either course you must contact us to book before the course begins. Please see the calendar for the exact dates, and the locations page for venues and maps.

Note: The next begginers course is planned for the summer of 2010.

Upon completion of the course, if you have enjoyed archery and decide to join the club, we can give you a temporary free loan of the equipment you have used to learn with, until we need it back for the next beginners course!

After that we are happy to advise new members on what equipment they should buy and the best place to buy it. A kit containing everything you would need to start archery costs around £100.
